The Black Seed, Pressed
Black seed — Nigella sativa, also known as Habbatus Sauda or Habbat al-Barakah — holds an extraordinary place in the Sunnah.
Our Black Seed Oil is made from Nigella sativa seeds sourced from Egypt and mechanically cold-pressed to extract the naturally occurring oil within the seed.
Nothing is added and nothing is refined away.
One ingredient: 100% cold-pressed black seed oil.
What Makes Ours Different?
- 100% Nigella sativa oil
- Sourced from Egypt
- Mechanically cold-pressed
- Unrefined
- Unfiltered
- Single-ingredient
- No fillers or carrier oils
- No artificial flavors or additives
Why Cold-Pressed?
For our oil, we want the naturally occurring oil of the black seed itself.
The seeds are mechanically pressed without the refining processes used to produce many highly processed commercial oils.
Black seed oil naturally contains a variety of plant compounds, with thymoquinone being the best-known and most extensively studied constituent of Nigella sativa.
Cold pressing allows us to offer the oil in a minimally processed form rather than deodorizing, heavily refining, or blending it with another oil.
Why Unrefined & Unfiltered?
Our oil is not refined to make it unusually clear, neutral-tasting, or perfectly uniform.
It is also unfiltered, so naturally occurring fine seed sediment may remain in the bottle or settle over time.
That is normal for a minimally processed seed oil.
Color, clarity, aroma, intensity, and small amounts of natural sediment may vary slightly from batch to batch.
Shake gently before use if natural sediment settles.
Why People Choose Black Seed Oil
Black seed oil offers a simple, concentrated way to incorporate Nigella sativa into a regular wellness routine.
- A concentrated source of the naturally occurring oil in black seed
- Contains thymoquinone and other naturally occurring plant compounds
- Studied for antioxidant and inflammation-related activity
- Explored in modern research related to metabolic and general wellness
- Easy to take directly or pair with honey
- Traditionally used for skin, scalp, and hair care
- Can be incorporated into faith-centered and ruqyah routines
- Single-ingredient and minimally processed
Black Seed in Faith-Centered Wellness
For Muslims, the significance of black seed begins with the words of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
Black seed oil may also be incorporated as a permissible means within a broader ruqyah and faith-centered wellness routine alongside Qur’an, du‘a, adhkar, and reliance upon Allah.
Qur’an and du‘a may be recited over the oil before use.
Common ruqyah recitations may include Surah Al-Fatihah, Ayat al-Kursi, Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, and An-Nas, along with authentic du‘as for healing and protection.
As with any permissible physical means, healing and benefit are sought from Allah while Qur’an, du‘a, dhikr, and tawakkul remain at the heart of ruqyah.
From Egypt
Our Black Seed Oil is sourced from Egypt, where Nigella sativa has a long history of cultivation and traditional use.
We specifically chose a simple preparation: pure Nigella sativa oil that is cold-pressed, unrefined, and unfiltered.
No blends. No carrier oils. No unnecessary ingredients.
How to Enjoy
Real black seed oil has a naturally strong, peppery, slightly bitter taste. That intensity is part of the character of pure, unrefined Nigella sativa oil.
Some people prefer taking it directly and following it with a drink. Others pair it with something that softens its strong flavor.
Ways to Use It
- Take directly according to your preferred serving
- Pair with a spoonful of honey
- Follow with a drink if you find the flavor strong
- Incorporate into your regular black seed wellness routine
For Hair, Scalp & Skin
Black seed oil also has a long history of topical use for the skin, scalp, and hair.
Apply a small amount on its own or dilute it with a skin-appropriate carrier oil. We especially like pairing it with cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil for topical use.
Massage a small amount into the scalp or hair, or apply sparingly to the skin as part of your personal care routine.
Because pure black seed oil is concentrated and naturally aromatic, patch test first before applying it extensively.
Black Seed Oil vs. Ground Black Seed
Both come from Nigella sativa, but they offer different ways of using the seed.
Egyptian Black Seed Oil: the naturally occurring oil is mechanically cold-pressed from the seeds, giving you the concentrated oil fraction of Nigella sativa.
Local Honey + Ground Black Seed: contains the actual ground black seed blended directly into local East Coast honey, so you consume the whole ground seed rather than only its pressed oil.
We intentionally offer both because one gives you the pressed oil of Nigella sativa, while the other gives you the whole ground seed in an easy-to-enjoy honey preparation.
Which Black Seed Product Should I Choose?
Choose Black Seed Oil if you want the concentrated naturally occurring oil of Nigella sativa in a pure, cold-pressed form. It is easy to take internally and versatile enough for topical skin, scalp, and hair use.
Choose Local Honey + Ground Black Seed if you want to consume the actual whole ground seed in a smoother, naturally sweet honey preparation that is especially easy to make part of an everyday routine.
An Ancient Seed Still Being Studied
Modern researchers have extensively studied Nigella sativa and its best-known constituent, thymoquinone.
Clinical and experimental research has explored black seed and black seed oil in areas involving antioxidant activity, inflammatory pathways, metabolic health, and other aspects of general wellness.
Research continues to develop, and results vary depending on the preparation, amount used, and study design.
For Sunnah Garden, modern research adds another layer to the story. The significance of black seed begins with what the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us about it.
Ingredients
100% Cold-Pressed Black Seed Oil (Nigella sativa)
No carrier oils. No fillers. No artificial flavors. No artificial colors. No preservatives.
Storage
Store in a cool, dark place.
Keep the bottle tightly closed and away from excessive heat and direct sunlight.
Natural sediment may occur because the oil is unfiltered. Gently shake before use if needed.
A Quick Care Note
Black seed oil is concentrated, so start modestly when incorporating it into your routine.
If pregnant or breastfeeding, taking medication, preparing for surgery, or managing a medical condition, speak with a qualified healthcare professional before regularly consuming black seed oil.
Patch test before topical use, particularly if you have sensitive skin, and avoid contact with the eyes.
We take the permissible means while remembering that all healing and benefit ultimately come from Allah.
